Experimental Research Progress of Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome by Chinese medicine

Abstract  Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a frequent-occurring clinical disease that belongs to one of the intestinal functional diseases. The etiology of IBS remains unclear. At present, it is considered to be related to mental, neurological factors and intestinal stimulation. Clinical practice proved that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment of IBS had the advantages with small adverse reactions, so that raised more and more attentions recently. This paper reviewed the recent progresses of experimental research on IBS from aspects of ancient classical prescriptions, contemporary experience prescription and acupuncture respectively. The purpose of this paper is to provide comprehensive reference for clinical IBS treatment, and facilitate revealing the mechanism of TCM treatment of IBS systematically.
